oh boy!

well, it all began about five years ago but had probably been brewing for a while
longer than that; i started making images that freed me from a lot of history, a lot
of dusty and stale ideas; images that were like friends, directly & honestly rendered,
reduced to fundamentals..... after over 30 years of practicing it was about time
i started delivering; doing what felt right, using a lifetime of making and looking,
to shape things

the basic energy of creativity & the intelligence that comes with skill and
experience gave me fresh images that were 'here with me', present & alive;
a new way of making that opened a door into a new place where
the 'magic' of line and colour took on a life of their own

all the work has a relation to the 'natural' world as it is about growing, flowing,
changing and so on, it is not meant to be a static or fixed grand statement or
an illustration of a big idea, to me it is part of life and living

so, i started by making and refining a number of characters - oh boy! was the first
- some of which had been in my mind since i was young, since then the different
types of images have sorted themselves into themes or groups of things; some
have come out of the materials, some seem to have been influenced by particular
events or experiences

the next part of the story is to send them all to market, so that i can share them,
sell them and make a simple living .... maybe sharing is part of the point of making?

they are for homes not galleries, at home here i hang them individually and
also a lot together, equally spaced in squares and rectangles, where the individual
notes or words go to make a different tune or a story
